The Role of Racial Identity on Community Leisure Involvement in an African American Neighborhood Drs. Glover and Shinew are surveying adult participants and volunteers of Douglas Park, which is comprised of three facilities that offer programming to families that reside in the Douglass Park area. Historically, this section of the community and its residents have been considered "at-risk" due to the high concentration of minority residents combined with their lower economic status. The study seeks to determine if involvement in programs designed for and by African Americans leads to a greater sense of empowerment among participants and volunteers.
